We like to think of Sutton as one of the friendliest sailing clubs you could visit. We enjoy our racing but just as important is meeting with friends in the bar afterwards. The club is well appointed for its size with an active committee always looking at ways to make the club better and offer more to her members and visitors.
Sutton Sailing Club was delighted to welcome Birmingham Model Yacht Club who joined us as a new membership category a few years ago and they are enthusiastic members of the club, bringing their own distinctive take on competitive sailing.
The club is run by the members for the members.
On Shore Facilities
The club room has a panoramic view of the lake and functions as combined lounge, social area during racing and teaching room for courses. The raised patio outside the clubhouse is a great spot to relax with a bit of lunch or watch the sunset over the far end of the lake during the long summer evenings. There is a reasonable amount of open boat storage (within the secure grounds of the club), with slipway access to the water, showers and changing rooms, disabled changing and showering, baby changing facility, galley and affordable bar.
The Location and Sailing Facilities
Powells Pool is a freshwater lake situated in Sutton Park, near to Sutton Coldfield town centre. It is a safe environment in which to sail, with on-water activities easily visible from the clubhouse and race control box and safety boats on standby or patrolling during organised club activities. Club boats are available for hire for members, and personal safety equipment is available if required.
There is a varied programme of activites during the year with most based at the club. Although one year is never the same as the next, we will normally have BBQs, an annual prize giving, winter socials which have included, wine tasting, skittles nights, racing nights, quiz night etc. Away from the club we often plan a club trip to Bala or other dinghy destination for a weekend, and a number of the members get together and plan yachting trips further afield.
