Introduction to the Sailing Tips
RYA Logo

This series of sailing tips has two purposes. The first of these is obviously to make us all go faster and safer and thus improve the sailing in the club. The second is to try to improve the communication level in the club.

To this end, two facilities have been provided, namely the website and the weblog (called a blog). The website contains information that is generally static such as the Sailing Timetable with its list of OOD duties and only the webmaster can easily change it. In contrast, the blog can be added to by anyone in the club and contains dynamic information such as news of forthcoming events, photos and information about past events, requests for duty swaps etc. The list is endless and the blog is a very important method of disseminating information within the club and keeping everyone aware of what is happening. However, if it is only used by 9 or 10 people then the information still does not reach all the members.

So, the question is, 'What will make members look at the blog?'. It was thought that maybe the answer is to put access to sailing tips on the blog and this is why they are there. It is hoped that you will get used to looking at the blog every few days in the hope of finding the magic tip to make you go faster and, as you get used to checking the blog you will appreciate its other uses in keeping us all up to date on club activities and that you, in turn, will add things to it.

Although the Sailing Tips will actually be stored with the website, they can only be accessed from the links on the right hand side of the blog. However, once you have been redirected to the website for the tips, you can become familiar with the contents of the website and maybe suggest alterations, additions or other improvements.

The sailing tips that are presented are gleaned from various sources. If you feel that some are incorrect then please make a comment on the blog. If you have any more tips that we can add to the list then please send them to johnwilber@blueyonder.co.uk

Any other suggestions?
