This example was also used last year to illustrate the form of the Racing Rules Quiz Night. See if you can get the correct answer. The animation below is typical of those that will be shown. Click the 'play button', and the question is:
Is the red boat entitled to room?
Yes Or No?
The answer, which is given for the above question, is:
Red and Blue are on opposite tacks on a beat to windward. Therefore rule 18 (Rounding and Passing Marks and Obstructions) does not apply - see rule 18.1(b). In this case rule 10 applies. Blue has right of way, and Red is not entitled to room.
If you got the first one right, have a go at a similar one that can be a bit confusing by clicking here. Then come to the Quiz Night and try a lot more.
A WIN WIN Situation
It is the intention to have a WIN WIN situation on the Quiz Night. The club is trying to generate funds thus on each table there will be a 'sinbin' (bowl) where it is hoped that players will donate 10p to the club for every question they get wrong. As there are only 64 questions the law of averages dictates that, even if you guess every one, you will still only guess 32 wrong and thus have a maximum debt of £3.20.
However, if everyone was to get them all correct the club would WIN as it means that we have a club where members know the racing rules. Nevertheless, if there are a large number of wrong answers, the club will generate some funds and thus WIN again. We can't go wrong so do your best to come.
