This is the second example to tempt you to come to the Racing Rules Quiz Night. This one is (perhaps) a bit more difficult.
The quiz will be based on a series of animations which depict a sailing scenario in which sailing rules play an important part.
The animation below is typical of those that will be shown. Click the 'play button', and the question is:
May the red starboard-tack boat refuse to give room to Blue?
Yes Or No?
There are 64 animations of the easy type like this and that was more than enough for last year. However, there are 82 medium difficulty ones and 80 hard ones that we can slip in!
The answer, by the way, which is given for the above question is:
The boats were clearly overlapped when they reached the two-length zone. Therefore, Red (the outside boat) must give Blue (the inside boat) room to round the mark in accordance with rule 18.2(a).
As you are now on the club website you may as well look at the 'Help for the OOD page' by clicking Home and then 'Help for the OOD' (for when it is your turn). Note that the OOD Instructions now follow the ISAF rules and the Automatic Race Timer has been reprogrammed accordingly. The club Sailing Program is also on this website for easy reference to check when it is your turn to 'do your duty' (menu item Club Sailing).
