On the first Wednesday of each month in winter there is a club social evening as some recompense for not sailing. The next such evening is Wednesday 1st November and a Racing Rules Quiz Night is planned.
The quiz will be based on a series of animations which depict a typical sailing scenario in which sailing rules play an important part.
The animation below is typical of those that will be shown. Click the 'play button', and the question is:
Which boat should be penalized?
Red Or Blue?
There are 64 animations of the easy type like this and that will probably be enough for one night. However, there are about 64 medium difficulty ones and 64 hard ones for future evenings!
The answer, by the way, which is given for the above question is:
The boats are overlapped on the same tack. Thus rule 11 applies and Blue (the windward boat) will be penalized. Rule 12 does not apply and rule 15 no longer applies.
As you are now on the club website you may as well look at the 'Help for the OOD page' by clicking Home and then 'Help for the OOD' (for when it is your turn). The club program is also on this website for easy reference to check when it is your turn (menu item Club Sailing).
